Week 5 29 March 2021 Needs Analysis & Situation Analysis
Needs analysis involves choosing from the various procedures for conducting need analysis ( Questionnaire, self-rating interviews, meetings, etc) and selecting those that are likely to give a comprehensive view of learners’ needs and stakeholders’ interests.
Decisions have to be made on the practical procedures involved in collecting, organizing, and reporting the information collected. There needs to be a clear reason for collecting different kinds of information.
After collection, the results can still be impressionistic. There is no direct application of the information obtained from needs analysis to a program design. Information has to be subject to a great deal of interpretation before it can be usefully applied in program planning. Potential needs have to be prioritized.
By using needs analysis, an appropriate syllabus can be chosen. You need to consider the purpose of the class, students’ needs, things they lack and also what they want. After this, some cases are discussed in class.
Situation Analysis: Context for language programs are diverse. In some situations, teachers are well trained and have time for lesson planning. In others, teachers may have little time for lesson planning, thus teaching straight from the textbook. Each context for a curriculum change contains factors that can facilitate the change or hinder its successful implementation. Therefore, it is important to determine these factors when planning a curriculum change.
Situatiın analysis is an analysis of factors in the context of a planned or present curriculum project that is made in order to assess their potential impact on the project. These factors may be political, social ,economic etc.
The goal is to identify key factors that might affect the implementation of a curriculum plan.
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool that separates influences on a business’s future success into internal and external factors. Strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats are evaluated. Situational analysis serves to help identify potential obstacles to implement a curriculum project and factors that need to be considered. The procedures are consultation, study analysis, observation, survey and review.
